    CV joints, help

    Hi all,
I have a 2015 528i xdrive. I noticed when I turned right from a stop, a clicking noise. CV joints, my mechanic says. I do not want to replace the whole axle due to the cost. Rather, I would like to rebuild/replace the joints and boots. Any ideas where I could find the joints online? I have access to a shop and tools.
I assume because its clicking, I cant replace the boot, grease it up and save it. Correct?
I just dont want to spend a fortune on the axles.
    Thanks!

    How many miles?

Although it's true that it can be axles making that noise.. it can also be something else, such as the 4wd system.

CV joints are expected to wear and click with very high mileage.. very unusual for a 2015.

In my estimation: If the boot is torn badly, and the joint is clicking and dry, the axle is done, and should be replaced with an OEM axle. It will likely be made by GKN, and FCP Euro will be a good place to get it.

Hey, they're $700 each cheaper than the BMW labeled part, made in exactly the same factory by exactly the same manufacturer.

Have the tech lift the car and search for the noise while it's running

CRACKING NOISES FROM THE FRONT AXLE AREA WHILE TURNING THE WHEELS, WHEN
    STATIONARY OR PARKING

Situation : Cracking noises are heard from the front axle area while
maneuvering at low speeds (e.g., parking lot maneuvers) or when turning the
    steering wheel while stationary.

Cause: Movement between the contact surfaces of the wheel
    bearing and swivel bearing (knuckle)

Procedure : Confirm the noise is coming from the front wheel
bearing area and remove the front wheel bearing. Use repair kit P/N 83 19 2 298 825 to
clean up the mating surfaces of the wheel bearing and the swivel bearing (steering knuckle).

It's not really a cracking. Sounds like metal on metal, grabbing and releasing

Imagine a big hunk of metal machined to fit precisely and soooper tightly into another. Except one of the pieces was spec'd a couple hundred thousandths too big (or small) and imagine the noise that would make under stress.

    That's the noise.

I found the kit. It contains essentially sandpaper and wheel bearing grease. Could I goto autozone and pick up said grease and I have sand pads at the house?

It's a 2-part grease that dries slightly tacky. I can't confirm whether or not regular grease would do the job. But sand and put the grease only on the flat, narrow mounting surface of the wheel bearing assy that connects the mounting bolt holes, without getting any into the holes or onto the bolts. Then sand and clean (but DO NOT GREASE) the inner mounting surface of the brake rotor.

I just reread your first post. Does this noise happen when you turn the steering wheel when the car is not moving? Just checking.....
