Have a 2008 535xi touring that I would like to upgrade to 19" wheels. Have 19" wheels chosen at 8.5 and 35 offset, but not bought yet. Most fitment programs are good with 245 35 19 for tires, but would like to go to 245 40 19 to fill the wheel openings better. Would really appreciate any input from experience with either size tire. Thanks very much.
If you change wheel diameter by an inch but do not change sidewall or width, you should expect the tire to grow by about an inch, from 25.7 to 26.7. I have not tried this fitment, but would put my car on a drive-on lift and turn the wheel from lock to lock to look for rubbing. Probably on a stock ride height car, there would be no issues but I would want to try to check before buying. If lowering or changing wheel offset, there could be issues. The speedo error is not bad — 60 mph might show up as 62-63 mph. 5 series dot net might be more active.
Keep in mind you will be changing the speedometer, odometer and gear ratio if you go with the bigger 245/40R19 tires. They may clear but could rub under suspension travel.
If I can help let me know.
