    1988 M6 Radio CM5905

Does anyone know of a good solution to repairing a malfunctioning cassette issue? My car has a kenwood aftermarket radio but I want to install the original radio which apparently has cassette issues. Im trying to get it as original as possible and the radio is the only non-original part of the car. Any thoughts? Should I just buy a new radio with satellite, etc.? Or do i re-install the original?

The best way to enjoy your 6 is to not listen to the OEM radio and just listen to the engine. Keep the stock headunit in the dash turned off and just drive the hell out of the car.
The reason I'm saying this is because the stock radio sounds pretty bad, just like the speakers. They really kick you back into the eighties, technology wise.
I work in software development and for me, going back in time is never a good thing. If you want a good sounding sound system my recommendation would be to spend a 'bit' on a good amp such as a Audiotec Fisher V-Eight that includes a DSP to solve all the interior issues and only put speakers in the front as this is where your ears are. And have a source that plays .flac files... O, looks...

There are a few people on Ebay that fixes radios...All you do is pay for shipping and repair costs...Its not about the sound quality, but the ORIGINALITY that it carries

I have used SW Stereo, 389 Washington St., Perth Amboy, 732-522-1837 ( www.swstereo.com ) for past radio repairs. It's been a few years since my last contact with them. Call and inquire about your tape player repair.

Pick up a copy of Hemmings Motor News at barnes and Noble. In the Services Offered section you will find at least 6-10 people who restore older automobile radios some even leave the original faceplates and modernize the internals. Certainly worth the $5 cost to check it out. Actually you can do it free as they have a reading section in their stores.

I have the same problem with the same deck. The cassette transport was damaged during an eject sequence, cracked a plastic slider in the mechanism. I've also been looking for a replacement for a while.

A little off-topic, but this caught my eye:

Admittedly, the sound quality is fairly poor. That's OK...I actually prefer the OEM Blaupunkt system. I'll toss in some 80s music and enjoy the tinny "classic" cassette deck sound.
    Save the manuals!
