    Huge fuel leak when I start the car after standing for a long time. Then it stops

    Hey guys.
    I had my car in winter hybernation and after starting it it spit a huge amount of fuel under the car. Its on the driver side of the engine.
    Then when starting it again the same day no leak.
    I have had this happen twice when standing for lets say 8 weeks.
    Last time my mechanic changed the fuel lines and I thought I had it fixed but now it happened again.
    its next to the left front wheel where the leak appears

    that place are indeed the fuel lines and short hoses to the fuel rails. But strange it leaks once and stops.
    I had recently a similar fuel leak under the car , but under the fuel tank. I had put the car in the garage with almost full tank , and it must have been leaking from above the tank as i see a wet tank side and under it.... but it stopped and now no more.

    Happens all the time, its the clamps you can't get to.
    Look up my thread on upgrading to seamless fuel hose.

    Ed , do you have a link to that thread ? i can't find it with search .....
    And is this about front leak or above fuel tank ? i remember to have seen threads were they cut holes in bottom plate to reach clamps above fuel tank.

    Timely thread. After replacing the lines/clamps in that area about 6yrs ago, I'm experiencing a minor leak too.
    1993 850Ci.....18 years & 165,000 miles and counting!

    I also bought the correct metric hose, and bmw clamps, continue to fight fuel leaks, some small,damp with oder, one was dripping badly. I have switched to worm style clamps and try not to overtighten, seens OK, but we'll see what happens in spring, 8 more weeks... I will bookmark this post. Let us know how the change to stainless and AN fitting go, if you decide to do it.

    Make sure that you change all 4 hoses. There is a short set up top (easiest to get to by removing the housing that holds the cabin filters). Also, there is another set below. I had the same problem once - and what it was is that the clamps simply needed to be tightened.

    I used the aba type of fuel injection clamps from one end of car to the other. The worm gear clamps will cut into the hose. I also used Gates Barricade fuel injection hose to replace all of the original hoses. https://www.gates.com/us/en/fluid-po...-pkg/p/p100111
