    Unhappy 118i Water Pump

    Hi,

The Water Pump and Thermostat need replacing on my partners 57 plate 118i.

She’s going to be replacing it in a few months so want to get it done as cheap as I can.

    I stupidly purchased this:

    https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F371594426404

without checking in too much detail. I received it and it looks completely different.

The pump is completely different, and if I search the part number 7566335 it looks like it’s for other series.

The seller assures me that it will fit the car, despite it having a different design.

Question is, will it be ok for a few months? And are the going to be any issues?

    Thanks

These engines are made of aluminum. They do not tolerate overheating at all. Installing aftermarket cooling system parts is strictly verboten unless you enjoy spending money on a new engine. Now, go to www.realoem.com and enter the last 7 characters of the car’s vehicle identification number. Hit enter and bookmark the page. Scroll down to the engine section and get the part numbers for the required parts. I’m sure the UK gas the equivalent of the BMW Car Club of America. Check its website for reputable parts vendors. BMW doesn’t make the cooling system’s parts, but relies on reputable manufacturers to supply its factories with high quality parts.

Also, the only coolant you want to put in that engine is coolant from the dealer or any other high quality coolant designed for aluminum engines. Also, dilute the coolant with DISTILLED WATER so that you end up with a 50/50 mix. Change it every 3 years.
