proper operation of rear upper inner control arm bushings

I recently installed new lemforder rear upper inner control arm bushings and still haven't reinstalled the subframe. Moving them upper control arms up and down with the subframe on the floor, it seems as if when the upper control arm moves up and down the rubber in that bushing twists, instead of the whole bushing turning inside the space between the two bolt holes i the upper control arm. Is this correct operation. Does the control arm need to be in a certain position or have load on it before you torque the bolts down?

Yes those bushings are in torsion, so the Control Arm needs to be positioned before final torque is applied. Not sure how that happens with Weight On Wheels though.

Install them loose. Get the car lifted with full weight on the wheels. Torque to spec.
There are various ways to accomplish this including putting car on jack stands and using a trolley jack to lift on the suspension.
I had the alignment shop torque everything when they did the alignment, but I had my car flatbedded in as well.

Basically you need to torque under full suspension load however you manage to accomplish the load.

yea, as others have said, you need to load the rear of the car.

I installed them loose and put the rear end on ramps and torqued them down.

On a side note, my original inner bushings were in good condition. I didnt need to replace them but did since i already had the parts and everything was apart. If i had to do it again, i would've left them alone if the visual inspection was fine. I think the outer balljoints alleviate the stress on the inner bushings.
