2017 BMW 330i xdrive engine wiring harness replacement

Hi everyone,

I leased my car 12/31/2017 with almost no miles. At this moment it has around 5000 miles and I haven’t had any issues until now.

Three weeks ago I received a drivetrain error. I drove it to Portland BMW thinking I would be covered. Turns out I’m not covered and the cost of a replacement will be around $2300. Apparently some type of animal chewed up the wiring harness. The technician didn’t provide any pictures and was able to diagnose the problem by touch. Does that make sense? The section that is damaged is behind the alternator and it will have to be removed in order to take pictures of the damage. I’m lost.

Any recommendations or suggestions?

If the wires are chewed up, it would be easily to tell "by touch" because good wires are smooth.
