Manual transmission shift detent pin bushing repair

    Hi all,

My '01 325Ci has been a bit difficult to shift into Reverse or 5th gear. The more I read, I learn about "manual transmission shift detent pin/bushings that get worn or stuck and no longer function properly. Has anyone here swapped one or both ...or any of these?

From the videos I'm seeing it looks like you have to pull the transmission, which if that's the case - I'll be bringing the car to my mechanic. Just curious if there's enough real estate in under there to swap these pins/bushings without pulling the tranny?

    Here's more details: https://www.bavauto.com/bmw-transmis...ng-23117542726 and https://www.bavauto.com/bmw-transmis...re-23311224849

    Thank you,

    Jay

Manual transmission shift detent pin bushing repair

Ya, 5th gear ‘lean’ in an ZF S5D 320Z is a real issue, resolved by replacing the shift detent sleeves/pins.
No room in the tunnel for the tools.

Adding another question... I bought a ZF320 to swap into my 325 track car and was experiencing the famous 5th gear lean. I went ahead and replaced the sleeve bushing and put everything back together, replaced the fluid but I still have the 5th gear lean. I haven't ran the car yet because I'm doing other repairs. Will this go away once I run the car and everything gets lubbed up with the fluid?

Being a track car, I'm a little worried since we live within the 3-4-5 gear range.

    Any ideas?
