    Z3 Codes P0170 P0173

Recently my cars been running horrible because of these two codes. I just fixed a intake leak and it tremendously fixed my problem of rough idling etc. These two CEL codes for fuel trim have been causing annoying problems for my car. I値l be at a stoplight or drive thru (anywhere where my car is in idle for a minute or so) then i値l try to drive and it will be a huge loss of power and the engine will shake. So I immediatly pull over & restart my car & it fixes it for the time being but it値l do it all over again once at idle. Anyone have suggestions what it could be? Maybe MAF sensor? I also ran 87 for a while which could cause issues (stupid I know), back to 93 but could that be giving it some issues and maybe have to cycle a couple more fill ups of 93? Any suggestions/ideas would tremendoulsy help.

The mixture codes are but one symptom. The behavior you are describing is more aligned with the BMW codes "misfire with fuel cut". These will be a P13xx code for most (all?) of our versions. My suggestion for a first diagnostics is a bit unorthodox. Run it by my house some day and we'll get a look. I'm in Bowers Hill, give or take. My only requirement is it needs to be warmish and dry.

I知 available whenever you are, 20 minutes from where I stay. Gonna try cleaning the MAF and seeing if that does anything!

Cleaning the MAF will do about as much as disconnecting the battery. Pretty much nothing. But whatever.

Since you're new, your PMs will be limited or non-existent. So email it is. My username at my domain. My domain happens to be zeeasylum with a .com on it.

Cleaning the MAF did nothing. I noticed whenever I disconnect the MAF and let it run on idle, it doesn稚 lose power. When I reconnect it & let it run at idle, it loses power. Correct me if Im wrong but I assume it would be fixed if I got a new MAF sensor.

That is not a definitive test. Unplugging the MAF puts the DME into an Alpha-N strategy, which can mask many different areas of problems. What motor are we dealing with?

That narrows it down some. I have a test maf for a M52TUB25.

Email I gave is home. I'll see it in about an hour and a half.

How many miles? As mentioned, most likely Pre-Cat O2 sensors.

Miles around 155k. O2痴 are brand new & I知 getting misfires from cylinder 3 aswell. This only happens when I let the car idle for a minute or so, then I have to restart car..
