in your defense i will offer this...... the value negotiated in a deal is only a deal when both parties are satisfied.

you and the buyers negotiated $2800 and both walked away happy, making it a good deal. however, you asked us what we thought it was worth subjectively, and my subjective opinion was $400 based on the fact that i had sold one of almost identical build just a few years earlier. because your estimate of value and my estimate of value were miles apart..if we had entered into a contract together one of us would had always felt taken and it would not have been a deal.

so based on the above analogy, we are both right and wrong. your customer proved me wrong by paying $2800 and i proved myself right by selling for $400.

Well some interesting points made by all...my path with E21's has been slow and I am now considering selling my pair of Baur's as I don't think time is on my side. Those of you in the Land of the free sometimes don't appreciate how good you have it when it comes cars etc but in here in OZ we get bent over and butt f****d every time. I had my '82 320/6 repaired by a retired old skool panel beater and is now completely rust free and needing final assembly and gaps etc done and I probably paid him about $5K and then a good paint job (not show quality) $18000!!!! and then a few quotes in between but the hard part is they are always very rubbery with the pricing. All the engine rebuild shops charge around $100-140 per hour and this is thanks to our huge mining economy where diesel mechanics earn around $65 plus per hour and up to $250K per year on site. I think the enthusiast community is much larger in the USA and perhaps this helps keep prices lower on the used parts but there is a large gap between what they sell for and what they really worth....anyone mechanical legend want a holiday in country Western Australia with free room and board to do my E21's :-)
