Has anyone on here done the timing chain guides themselves on an N62 ????
I've been a dealership tech for 13+ years and never had to do them, or even seen them done. Doesn't seem to be an issue with the N62. Are yours broken or damaged?

I get little bit of a rattle sometimes.
I have to do valve stem seals and alternator bracket seal, so while I have things a appart I was going to take a look at the timing guides
is it possible that it could be a lazy tensioner???
Yeah that's possible. Chain guides is a huge repair, and not one I would consider doing unless I had to.

I've never seen them go bad
M62 is notorious for that repair, N62 not so.

Well Gentlemen, let me show you a "unicorn" then......
That's clearly a lot more damage than just guides. Something actually broke or came apart. Looks like something caught fire on that fan.

Seems like there is more to this story than we know. We have not had any engine failures or timing chain problems with this engine. It does look like the fan was melting
2002 745i E65, After failing epa emissions because of clogged secondary air ports, I removed heads and had rebuilt at overhead Performance in Alabama. I noticed broken plastic on the guides so I replaced them. It’s a big job and lots of cuts on the hand since I did it in the engine compartment. I suggest dropping engine.
