I have an e46 M3 DME that runs my car fine, it starts no problem, runs on alpha-N for my CSL airbox, etc...only problem is I can't get the car CA smogged because it has a VIN that doesn't match the chassis. Is there a way to change the VIN while retaining the tune on the car? I've found some references here and there using WinKFP but none were really that clear in the steps and I'm not sure if I have to virginize the DME before trying to change the VIN or if I can just boot up WinKFP and have at it. If I have to virginize, again, is there a way to retain the tune?
Thanks in advance.
I've done this before - https://www.ecuworx.co.uk/2016/02/26...f-with-tool32/
Thanks, do you know if that overwrites the VIN or just saves a new VIN to a new space? I'm worried if it's the latter, then the emissions machine might still read the original VIN.
It is the latter but I'm 99% sure the original VIN cannot be read using the OBD2 protocol.

Hope someone can help, does the vin have be changed in smg module as well ?
I have a e46 03 M3 SMG Coupe, my original DME, smg module and ews got water damaged. I purchased used dme, smg module and ews with key on eBay and also used DSC, I didn’t realize these where from a convertible. The car runs and drives but, I’m getting lateral acceleration code 153 and Dsc codes stating vins don’t match when I scan with inpa. I believe the convertible has two acceleration modules.
My question is do I have to change the vin on smg module ? I thought they where vin specific and it won’t work if vins don’t match ? If so is there steps to do it ?
Need to start with dsc coding.
