    *E46 key problem! Not normal!

So after spending a good hour online trying to get the key to work without the key, I have noticed that my key for my 2001 320i is for the E36’s. it only has to buttons and it doesn’t charge when it’s put into the ignition.
Only owned this for 6 months. I want to get the standard key (diamond shape) I think it is. Is it worth me changing keys? The buttons never worked in the first place. Or is it to much of a pain in the ass and not worth it?

I appreciate any and all help!

Have you changed the batteries in the key?
    1999 2.8L Z3 Roadster,
    2000 3.0L Z3 Roadster,

There is only one thing more pleasurable than working on a Z3, that's driving it top down on a fine day.

Your best source for a new key is the dealer. Takes a few days to get, should cost less than $175. You need to provide proof that you are the owner when ordering.

I know of some forum members who make and cut keys. The only setback is you wont be able to drive your car because you have to send in your EWS with your key if you go that route.

Oh and the price is 1/3 of the dealer's.
