Hello. Having some issues with the remote for my e31. For some reason the range is very poor. I need to stand very close to the car each time I will lock/unlock , and It usually needs several tries before It works. Does anybody know the location of the antenna/reciver? Am I right in that this key is the 433Mhz and not the ir one?
I have the same
I stay next to the car hold bottom for 2sec and let go 0.5 sec later car unlock same when locking. That way I don't have to try few time...I think we need to buy new key
I'm sure mine is 25 years old

Very common problem. Very frustrating. Pretty much ALL E31s I've owned have had this issue in one way or another.

Ok so it's quite common then. Still very irritating. Where is the antenna/reciver located, anybody knows?

Thanks. I've seen that before but I thought that only applied to cars with ir.
Yeah mine is like that too. Sometimes it’ll work normally and others it won’t at all. But usually if I stand close enough to unlock it manually it works. I tried swapping the key battery but didn’t change anything
Mine had rotten range on one key - but excellent range on the other even though they both had new batteries. So, it is possible that the key is the problem rather than the receiver. And if that is the case there are loads of second-hand keys on Ebay and you could just swap the transponder over and re-program it to the alarm....
