Rear Muffler Stud Part Number on M5?

    Hey gang,

I'm trying to fix some little things on my M5. Last time I removed the exhaust, a full 10 of the 12 exhaust hanger bracket studs came out of the body completely. The studs stick down from the body and provide a centering pin for the rear muffler hangers to mount to. The nuts (07119906089) have basically rust-welded themselves onto the studs, and I can't seem to find them on RealOEM.

Circled is the stud (there are 12 total, six for each muffler) I'm talking about:

Those mufflers look just like my Vibrant muffler.

What's the thread size (M8) and pitch of the ones you took out? Can't you get some threaded rod and nuts to make your own?

I looked on the parts film for the studs you would think they would be section 41, body structure, but did not find any thing

You may have to take some measurements yourself and go to McFadden Dales and get some studs

Yeah, M8. Dunno the pitch. The factory part is very nice, as it has an unthreaded portion that acts nicely as alignment dowels when the exhaust is reinstalled.

Thanks, I wasn’t able to find anything either.

Alternatively, if there is a way to chemically remove the rust-welded copper (?) nut from the stud... I may give “Metal Rescue” a go.

Found a part number from the non-M E39 muffler mounting studs, which I believe are identical. BMW 18211433080. Except these studs are $30. Each. On the low end.

    Yikes.

I'm going to try and go to a local junkyard and yank these studs to see if it fits. If it does, I'll grab as many as I can from local salvage yards. E39s are common in pick-your-parts locally, which is nice.

ECS Tuning almost always has the best images for parts on their site, so if you want to see this stud:

Yikes, $30 for a $1 piece of threaded rod with the end turned down.
Got a bench grinder? You could make one in 5 min.

I know, haha. I don't, but I have easy access to one at work. As opposed to the junkyard approach, I'm going to see if I can figure out the thread pitch, buy some 50mm M8 studs of that pitch, and grind them.

    Most likely it's M8 X 1.25.
That's what all the M8's I have are.
You could measure the distance between two threads however if you measure the distance between 10 threads then divide by 10, that's your pitch. Easier this way.

I have a super cheap set of Horror Freight thread taps/die; the most useful tool in there is a set of feeler gauge-like things that have different pitches.

$30 that's just lovely. So is the future of all our parts sadly, now that the automakers have the "gouge the parts prices once the cars are in the hands of people who will never ever buy new ones" strategy.

One advantage of the factory one is that it does look plated for corrosion resistance. Unless you make one out of stainless then grinding (or better yet, turning...) a stud down is gonna take the plating off. Mebbe since you live in Cali the junkyard ones will be clean....

On other hand, while I can see being extra long to help the fit-up being handy, I'm not so sure you really need the taper bit on the end? If you google around for stainless M8 studs, you can find all kinds of stuff, just most of them are square ended. I might just go that route and not sweat the taper-tip thing.
