    brake caliper piston retraction

    Hello all .
My question is when new brake pads are fitted are the pistons simply pushed back into the calipers or is there a need to clean the outers of the pistons due to possible ingress of dirt to the piston seals when the previously exposed part of the piston goes back over the seal ?
    Thanks to all .

It doesn't hurt to clean things provided the solvent doesn't eat into the rubber. Cleaning also let's me do a visual inspection for boot condition. JMO.

Be advised that pushing the caliper piston(s) inward causes the brake fluid level in the reservoir to rise. It’s a good idea to suction some of the fluid out of the reservoir before pushing the piston(s) in. Otherwise the brake fluid could be forced out of the reservoir. Brake fluid is corrosive.

Do clean the pistons before pushing in and watch that brake fluid. Brake fluid can remove paint, but you can wash if off with water if you didn't have cleaners
