Wiper Relay connector questions, wires, pin out voltages etc.

Ok, I hate to be someone posting this kind of question, but here we are.

I had my Ebox drain clog and have been getting water in there for sometime, the wipers would either not work or not turn off the last year or so, the other day they died.

First all 3 fuses were checked, 2 in front and 1 in rear. They were all swapped with known working ones for good measure.

    No wipers.

Then I pulled the DMEs and confirmed moisture, my drain was clogged with cypress needles, from the tree it was parked under for a month literally 3yrs ago.

Confirmed Wiper Relay 1 & 2 were heavily corroded and mild burning on the plastic connectors. Then found 2 broken wires on each the very small ones on both.

    Brown/Blue
    Brown/White

    Red/Yellow squares
    Brown/Blue

Both purple relays were severely corroded.

I went to junkyard and got lucky with an E39, two purple relays! I cut the connectors and harnesses out. I used my BMW electrical tool kit to remove the pins with good wire in the same color from the donor plugs, then I removed the old broken pins from the damaged connectors in my car, soldered the new wire pins to old wires and re inserted them, hopefully correctly.

On wiper Relay 1 I am getting this from the pins.

    87 - 12v
    87a - Ground
86 - 12V (Small wire that was repaired)
85 - Nothing, just mili volts
30 - Nothing, just mili volts
    Wiper Relay 2

    87 - Ground
    87a- Ground
86 - 12V (Small wire that was repaired
85 - Nothing, just mili volts
30 - Nothing, just mili volts

Results have been the same with car off and with key on, engaging the wiper stalk doesn't seem to change it.

I did check and swap the fuses again after first trying the new relays.

I would like to get confirmation on jumping to eliminate the used, but good shape relays and if anyone knows the readings I should be getting so I can confirm my stalk works.

Its an 11/95 750iL. I have access to an '01 740iL if need be, RealOEM seems to think it also has the dual relays, but I'm not sure I trust it.

    Any help is appreciated.

Don't have time to look it up right now but here is a WDS that may help.

Thanks, I did find that link, very helpful, but I couldn't find what the values should be at the respective pinout diagram.

I'm also unclear as to how I should read the 9 pin connector layout.

Okay, just to update and close this thread, so its not a dead end when someone finds it in 3months.

I had a signal wire switched,

9 - Pin Connector, diagram is on the white cover piece

    3 6 9
    2 5 8
    1 4 7

K36 - Wiper Relay 1 (Closest to Driver side LHD)

    Pin 2 - Red/White = 12V Fuse 3
    Pin 4 - Brown/Blue = Wiper Activation General Module
    Pin 5 - Brown = Ground
    Pin 6 - Red/Blue =Wiper Motor - Wiper Relay II
    Pin 8 - Red/ Yellow Squares = 12v Fuse 28

K37 - Wiper Relay II (Furthest from Driver Side LHD)

    Pin 2 - Black/Brown = Signal Wiper Motor
Pin 4 -Brown/White = Wiper II Activation General Module
    Pin 5 - Black/Green = Signal Wiper Motor
    Pin 6 - Red/Blue = Wiper Motor Supply from K36 (Wiper Relay 1)
    Pin 8 - Red/Brown = 12v Fuse 28

Hopefully that helps anyone with the 750 or the 2 purple relay wiper set up. In my case BOTH Relays had Pins 4 & 8 completely broken off and no wire remnants to make repairs. I had trouble getting mine to work as I had Pin 4 mixed up, now its all soldered and heat shrined and fully working.

If you ever have intermittent wiper failure, take the time, open your Ebox and clean the drain and box with a vacuum, blown out the drain and snake it with something, I let my issue ride too long and this meant I didn't drive my 750 for a month!

Do you have the pin outs or know where I can find them for the others?
