I have a 1997 528i build date 6/96. Unfortunately the only transmission for this car is from another pre 12/96 build date car. I bought a 98 “parts car” with a working transmission. Transmission bolts right up but connections are not the same. I made a “patch” cable to go from newer connector to old connector. Did not work. Need some advice/help from some of you pros out there. Thanks!

Shogun tricks and tips for the E32 series are HERE!
Get us the part #’s from the two data plates / old trans, new trans.
Does the trans an automatic I assume have two oil pans one big one small if so it is a a4s270/310r sc. the trans was used in the 528 up to 3/1998 I believe
Take a look at this GDrive folder I have with all the info on what transmissions were used in what years & the fluid specs etc.

It should help, the transmission MUST be the same for the automatic otherwise you'll likely need to be doing quite a bit of rewiring as well as swapping transmission control modules.
EDIT: Yours is on the first page of the big chart document, you have the A4S-270R which needs DEXRON III, it appears that transmission was fairly popular on the older E36 models as well, take a look at the chart for the same transmission to find out which other cars have the same transmission and get one out of those cars.
