How to deal with rock chips

Greetings all, restoring this old E36.

Paint is good, but there are a lot of rock chips around the fender lip. Some with surface rust as seen in the photo.

I asked a body shop about fixing them up and they want to repaint each panel.

If I go that route, I might as well just repaint the whole car since the rear quarters blend into the c-pillar, roof, etc..

Seems to be kind of crazy to just take care of some rock chips.

    Any advice?

I've had pretty good luck with Dr. Colorchip. It won't be perfect, but its a lot cheaper than a respray.

    Set car on fire.
Nobody would recertify these machines after somebody screwed with them without any visibility into what they did.

Tape it off, sand it, and primer/spray paint it black. You will NEVER be able to notice that tiny black edge is different and it will cost you less than $20. If you don't like how it comes out, bring it to a professional I guess. This will never draw someone's eye, its more for rust prevention.

This 100%, you’ll never notice a thin strip that may be slightly different, especially with the wheel on again. Clean it, sand it, clean it, prime it with a rust inhibitor, sand it, clean it, paint and clear coat it. Lots of DIY on YouTube (ChrisFix has a good one).
