I’m a bit of a forum newbie having no posts (that I know off) but after doing a lot of digging this seems to be thee best forum for e32s!
Anyway, I’m from Northern Ireland and classic bms are really rather rare, and worth a lot more than in the US. I’m a collage student and having 2 v8s and one i6 already, I really didn’t need another car..
Having craved a v12 since I got my license, I bought this 1994 Calypso 750iL. Call me mad but I bought it online without seeing it!!
I'm in Northern Ireland and the car was in England. So I paid a transport company to pick it up for me
Spec is as follows:
Model: GC82 750IAL
Colour: 252 Calypso Red
Upholstery: 0458 Silver Grey Full Leather
Extras:
240 * Drivers Airbag
302 * Remote Control Anti-Theft
428 * Triangle+First Aid Kit
489 * Passenger Lumbar Support
496 * Rear Seat Heating
672 * BMW Bavaria 6 CD Changer
865 * Tables + Footrests
293 * TD Alloy Wheels+Tyres
401 * Electric Sliding Roof
488 * Driver Lumbar Support
494 * Front Seat Heating
662 * BMW Bavaria Professional Radi
812 * GB Specification
676 * BMW Hi - Fi Speaker System
Plans are
Change all ambers to clear lenses
Install smoked front lenses ?
Black front grille
lower suspension, bilstein and eibach possibly ?
New wheels. I have an album of possibilities, but I'm thinking e38 parallels for now with low profile tyres
Install some sort of tuning chip
Most importantly, carry out any repairs including body repairs
I would appreciate any advice/suggestions as I am more of an e38 and e39 guy. I have never owned an e32 before and they are extremely rare over here
Thanks for looking,
Steve

wow, that is a nice car, and a Highline version, very nice colour. Add more pics to the flickr account when you have them.
What is the VIN of the car? You can finde all the details here then with the VIN https://www.mdecoder.com/
Shogun tricks and tips for the E32 series are HERE!
Thanks Shogun! Yea I’ll add more pics when I get a chance
Is it highline? I wasn’t sure. I’ve never seen a highline in the UK
VIN is DC71736. Turns out the colour is actually CALYPSOROT and not calypso. Maybe both colours are the same, not sure
No, apparently no complete Highline with rear additional aircon and cooler box etc. It has the option S865A Storage trays / footrests in rear, and that is what I have seen in the one pic, so I thought it is a Highline version. Highline has this

Need some help guys
Car is still in storage, but tonight I went to show it to my mechanic, as he called round and when I re connected the battery the alarm went off
Anyway, the remote locking doesn’t work and I can’t unlock/lock the car with the drivers door, just the passenger side. I’m sure I left it unlocked the last time I left it
As soon as I connect the battery the hazards come on and then the penetrating horn starts!
I think its it’s time to fix the drivers side door locking problem so if I could get some help on that first and hopefully that resolves the alarm issue
Car wouldn’t fire with the alarm going off, I’m guessing that’s the immobiliser ?
your car has the optional extra S302A Alarm system , here I once posted a good link to bimmerforums U.K.: BMW E32, E34 & E36 Immobiliser and Alarm Identification & Faults Guide - GR40, 2T, 3T, 3G EWS (Sigma, Gemel, Serpi Star) EWS I, EWS II

Wow that is a really nice e32. The leather and wood look perfect.
You will most likely have the BMW Alarm System 3 fitted - and that uses a fixed-code remote which looks like a matchbox with the corner cut off:
...and it does have the annoying quirk that if the battery is disconnected and then re-connected it will arm itself and immobilise the car. Disarming was via the remote and I used to have the remote ready when I reconnected the battery to stop annoying the neighbours. It didn't matter if the alarm was armed or not armed, it used to go off as soon as the battery was re-connected.
The alarm (on mine) lived under the rear seat and the siren box was in the engine bay - but looking at your engine bay I can't see it whereas I could see the top of it with the bonnet open. The siren box had a keyhole and could be deactivated by a special key - the instructions say that this is the only way to deactivate it.
If you do have BMW Alarm System 3 (see below to see if it is the same):
https://www.meeknet.co.uk/E32/Alarm/Index.htm
...then the most expedient way to go forwards is to contact BMW with your VIN and proof of ownership and they may be able to get you a replacement remote (it's pretty ancient though and I'm not sure if they would have stock). The remote is fixed-code with the code being set by solder links within the remote - with many thousands of combinations.

Thanks for your help Shogun and Timm
Timm I don’t have that remote, I’ve asked the seller if he has it but I’m not hopeful he does
I will contact bmw to see if I can get a new one. In the meantime I will try and deactivate it via the siren box. I have all the keys in the car so hopefully I have the one for the siren box
At least now I know what’s causing the problem
It’s strange how this didn’t happen when I initially replaced a flat battery
But it’s happening now for sure lol
The horn sounding is most annoying..
My siren box looked like this:
.....and it was a strange short, round key

A guy in England kindly gave me a new immobiliser unit with a remote fob coded into it to try in my car. I removed the rear seats of my car but I cannot for the life of me locate the existing immobiliser in my car! can someone tell me where it is or should be ?
Here is what I see when I removed the rear seat, and what the immobiliser looks like (pics of immobiliser sent from my friend in England)

Hello Steve hopefully this helps you . I had a similar looking immobilizer system in a euro 730 this system was hardwired into my vehicle on the drivers side and tucked under where the speaker is.
https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...ecurity-system
the oem keyless “different than the immobilizer” should be located under the drivers kick panel under the dash. If your vehicle didn’t have it there should be a green plug or an adapter plug plugs into a junction under the dash left side bulk head under dash (left hand drive) .where your looking under your seat is where the e34 keyless module is located, from my reading only 95 e34 540 had factory keyless with immobilizer functionality this uses the remote with integrated key (non switch blade style). The e32 has no keyless or security modules under the seat just the dash (not sure on IR system)

Thanks man. That helps a lot !
I will have a look under the drivers kick panel tomorrow and keep you guys up to date
I’m not so sure of the second location you talk about if the alarm unit isn’t under the drivers kick panel. Given my car is RHD do you mean under the glove box?
Checked under the drivers kick plate, speaker cover and behind the glove box but can’t find it anywhere
Starting to give up
I’ll have another look and grab photos but I can’t find it anywhere

See that white plug 3rd pic? I’m fairly sure that’s the oem keyless harness . So there is and adapter harness that connects between that and the keyless module. But your module pictured I’m not sure that is something we do not have in the US

Ok thanks
I’ll keep digging
I might cut my losses and sell it as a non runner
Here is more info ! You can match up the plug design to the picture on this thread
https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...ry-into-an-E36
you could hard wire the system you have to that plug or you could get the correct keyless for that plug . I have a few oem keyless module and remote combos but they are e36 style. This will interchange in between e32,e34,e36 but the keyless module is different than the square keyless original to e32/34 so you need to use the adapter cable that comes with the module.

Oops sorry ^ I also didn’t realize you were having a starting issue. Can you please pull the bottom black plastic column cover. Confirm there is no funky looking wiring going between ignition switch. That is normally where I’ve seen altered alarm wiring
- - - Updated - - -
Please also understand we don’t have this system in the US I’m just going off what I’ve seen on the euro 730i I removed an oem imobilzer from
Me E30 87/ 325i + F25 12/ M-Sport + E32 94/ 740i
G/F’s E34 92/ 525iT + F48 18/ X1
Thanks man
I will grab more ignition wiring pics when I’m back at the car
So do you think my car originally came with a different alarm module than what I have been give, and has been removed for some reason?
I take it, even though it may be removed the alarm is still working and isn’t disarmed
Before I start wiring that in, I’m going to do a thorough check of the whole car to try and find a module that matches the one I have
I’ve been told to check the boot but if it isn’t in there then I don’t know where else to look
That I cannot be sure of mainly because it’s not a common thing in the US we had no starter interrupt until 1995 but I would not lose hope you should be able to find it and bypass to start your car. Just will take some searching. Perhaps some of the non US e32 guys can chime in on locations? Knowing bmw they probably disabled the mainly relay/dme power relay/fuel relay . So if we don’t find anything I’d start checking those relays for powers to confirm you have the alarm cutting powers and not an alternative problem (doesn’t hurt to rule things out) don’t give up you will get it !

contact Timm , he is from UK and has his own website https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/m...hp?260723-Timm
and knows the U.K. spec E32 very well.
Also check the trunk/boot, remove the carpet in the trunk, behind the spare wheel is a space for control units, for example when the car has EDCIII, there are control units in a black plastic box.
On the left side in trunk behind the cover are often audo units, on the right side behind the cover is a 2nd battery and relays, in case the car has a second alternator.

Shogun tricks and tips for the E32 series are HERE!
If you had the 'Alarm System 3' then the control module has to be near the General Module (which is under the rear seat) as it taps into the door and window switches. I cannot see the huge loom of wires required for the alarm system under your seat which makes me wonder whether you actually had the same system as I had fitted - the it has been removed.
You said you found the siren box - did it look like the one I pictured?
As would be expected, BMW does not tell us the method of immobilisation - but one interesting point is that I distinctly remember that as long as I unlocked the car with the physical key in the drivers door the car would start - but the alarm would sound - and I do remember driving and then the alarm going off and frantically pressing the button on the remote to stop it.
So, is the car not starting for other reasons?
