Hello peeps, first time here and I am hoping this place answers all my queries on a regular basis. I have a bit of knowledge on the workings of engines but a free second opinion is always welcome.
i have a 56 plate 318i and at low revs, it rattles, as if ur in the wrong gear.
I am thinking some kind of timing chain slackness. It’s only got 85,000 on the clock so naturally the chains coming up to ring replaced.
i also have an oil leak but I don’t think that’s causing the noise, until I can find the source of the leak I am making sure it’s got plenty in.
its my first bmw and wouldn’t part with the car as I fooking love it but I just want it to run straight.
i did change the rocker cover gasket thinking that was the source of the leak as their was oil fumes coming into the car but it’s still pissing out
many thanks...
No. You're lugging the engine, which is causing pre-ignition knock. Change down a couple gears - anything below about 2,000 rpm is generally too low.
