1979 BMW 320i - First time BMW purchase - Need Advice

Hello fellow BMW enthusiasts. I am embarking on my, potentially, first BMW vehicle purchase. I love the aesthetic and classicality of vintage BMWs and happened to find a 1979 320i for sale locally on Craigslist. It has 129,XXX original miles on it, clean title, subpar aftermarket paint job, new interior, some rust, but overall good condition. I feel the asking price of $3995 is very reasonable. I checked it out today in person and liked the way it looked and the way the engine sounded. I couldn't take it for a test drive because the owner still needed to buy a bolt for a tie rod as he added an extra spacer for the wheels currently on the car. He says the vehicle runs well and he will buy the needed tie rod bolt tomorrow so I can take the car on a test drive. The owner has had the vehicle for two years but has not driven it much. Here is a link to the vehicle's listing: https://yakima.craigslist.org/cto/d/...796831888.html I am not too familiar with these cars and wanted to know your thoughts on this vintage 320i, as well as anything I should find out before purchasing. Any and all comments and feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I voted no. $4000 isn't a lot but it is a lot for that e21. If you're Keen on traveling you can expand your search and find more.

The e21 is worth owning. Just not that one....

I sold a nice one with 70kish miles for $3500. The car you posted would be a 1500-2000 car in my area.

If the paint job was great, I would say go for it, but paint is a very expensive item to fix.
Maybe 2900, if it has lots of rust a little less.

with that paint and those hideous wheels (for an E21), not a penny over 2000. well, maybe 2000.01, if you like the car.

as others have said, if you widen your search you can usually find a good selection. also, a car of this age, sitting around and not being driven much for a couple of years can mean you may be dealing with some fuel issues. just something to watch out for. read up on the faq before getting serious about buying
