    Getrag 250/G interchange information

    Hey everyone,

    i have bearing failure in my getrag 250 box at 160k miles. car is a 1995 e34 m50TU

    i’m trying to source a new unit, however i can’t find any clear info on which getrag 250 boxes will swap into my m50 powered 1995 e34.

    does anyone know which ones i should look for? i found one from a m44 powered 3 series and one from a 2000 z3 with a 2.5 m52?

    i am aware of the option ZF 310/320 swap as well but getrag replacement is the cheapest option i’d like to try first.

    any info would be awesome! i’m new to e34’s, but my e28’s both have 260/5 boxes with over 300k miles- both are still as quiet as can be

    The M44 matched one definitely is a no go, different bellhousing pattern. A 2000 Z3 2.5 would be an M52 so same bellhousing as your M50, can't speak to the shifter, etc. but suspect it would work fine.

    if you or anyone knows other options? i’m all for it.

    from what i’ve seen, there’s a couple tear downs but nobody knows where or what parts to get.

    i found a write up on all-data interestingly but references to special tools i can’t find and no specific part numbers to replace or procedures to r&r

    I used a ZF320 out of an E36, but I had to use an E34 ZF shifter and trans mount. I suspect in a Getrag application the same should apply.
    Vehicles:
    (Sold) 95' 525 - ZF320 5-speed swap, 3.46LSD rear, Raceland headers + straight pipe
    (Current) 2012 Scion tC 6-spd M/T - slow

    nice, found a trans from one of the forum users from same car with low mileage.

    i really looked into the ZF swap but the lowest cost i found was about $700 with driveshaft and shifter.

    worst part is, i received a great deal in a previous g250, and it came in like this:

    I’m thinking about it. It would be a shame to waste a low mileage unit just because of a broken mounting tab.

    currently waiting on a second Getrag 250 to arrive that i purchased from a fellow bimmerforums user, but i plan on keeping the broken one.

    anyone have ideas on best way to repair the broken one?

    Update:

    Paid a fellow forum member $300 + s&h 3 weeks ago.

    “Jblue200” was the user’s name.

    Jblue200 kept replying to my texts and messages saying that it was on the way, tracking info would be sent to me, etc.

    it has been 3 weeks, no refund & no explanation of why the unit never shipped.

    I knew the risk associated, however it looks like
    i lost my bet.

    Still trying to work out with seller before taking legal action.

    Conclusion:

    Still looking for a Getrag 250/5 for a 1995 e34.

    Will send payment via Paypal only.

    hopefully this will save someone else the headache i’ve had to go through. will update if seller makes this right.

    Thanks again to all the honest fellow bimmer enthusiasts.

    Jblue200 stopped responding, never sent a refund or the transmission.

    Hopefully this piece of shit won’t be able to rob anyone else through this forum.

    still looking to buy getrag 250 for 1995 e34 M50....

    i have not, i sent the money via another service at my own risk. (not smart)

    i guess the biggest red flag was that “Jblue200” said “no, i hate paypal”

    the biggest thing that got me was how knowledgeable about e34’s e90’s etc. this guy was, even sending me photos of the donor car & telling me about his turbo wagon project....

    eventually he stopped responding and made up some bullshit story... one after another.

    i didn’t lose much money on this, & i know i probably won’t get it back.

    i do, however, want this clown exposed and banned from this forum so he can’t pull this shit again.

    Bringing this thread back to life, but the problem
    never was solved with “jblue200” watch out for this fool, I wouldn’t recommend doing business with him.

    As an aside, my e39 needs timing chains...so the e34 this post was made for, is now for sale!

    PM me for any info in the meantime, while I get the for sale post up!
