Question about holding car at a light

My wifes M/B has a great feature, when stopped at a light if you press the brake pedal down "harder" it will hold the car stationary...so at a long light you do not have to keep your foot on the brake...great...my 07 5 series does not have this feature...so, if I were to pull the "parking brake" to hold the car, would that cause any undue damage?

Only if you drive off without releasing it.

It will just wear out the ebrake faster. The MB (and newer BMWs) accomplish this by locking the existing brakes in place, not by using the ebrake.
Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by hundreds of engineers that get paid thousands of dollars for something you bought at Pep Boys because your buddy who doesn't have a job told you it was 'better'?!?

OK, so the only thing I see that I am putting under strain is the e brake cables..the actual wheel/brake is not moving

Here is a great article how the emergency brake works...

    https://auto.howstuffworks.com/auto-...ncy-brakes.htm

You aren't wearing the cables per se, you are more wearing the emergency brake shoe/pad which would have to be replaced sooner.
