    Plastic cooling pipe replacement

Hello all. I am new to BMW, my GF has a 2003 325i with about 161K miles and I am working on fixing several vacuum leaks and have removed the intake manifold. I noticed that BMW uses plastic pipes along the block for cooling. I was planning on doing the normal radiator coolant hoses but when I removed the manifold I noticed the plastic pipes. I am looking for any input on when those should be replaced if at all. I am trying to do as much as I can while the intake is off so I don't have to take it back off in a month or two for something else.

    Thanks,

    Jason

Jason, go to E46Fanatics and read up there on the procedure used to replace those plastic pipes.

You have the right idea. Replace it now while the intake manifold is off. It's plastic. It's old. It could cook the engine if it fails and she keeps driving.

I have the new pipes in hand and even though the part numbers are identical, the new ones have 2 O rings on the end that goes into the block instead of one that the old ones have. Is this a new and improved design that will still work?

    Thanks,

The old pipe has two O rings as well. One has broken off and is still in the engine and you'll need to remove it before fitting the new pipe

There is only one thing more pleasurable than working on a Z3, that's driving it top down on a fine day.
