Good Morning,
Something funny has happened to my driver's side door where, all of a sudden, it is not closing. It's not latching onto the hook and one has to hold the door when driving ( what a joke) to keep it from coming open. Please advise. I looked through youTube video but could not find anything. Thanks for your help, in advance
I had this happen to me on my rear door.
There is a cam in the door latch mechanism that when the car suffers an impact the doors unlock and open automatically, for rescue.
This is a mechanical function not a electronic operated function
In this video

You can see the latch mechanism disassembled at 4:10 in the video he removes some thing he calls a motor, this is the cam (white part) and the damper mechanism.
At 10:50 in the video you can see he has the latch back together and the working the latch.
At the location of the white cam you should be able to see a black arm come in contact with the smaller part of the cam, if that cam is spun around and the arm is not allowed to move fully the door will not latch.
I think the guy in this video is having a different issue, but I hope this help you out.

Thanks for the advice. I happened to find out while researching the internet that the door latch on 2005 BMW745i had a factor recall issued last year. So I took my car to United BMW and had them fix it.
