Scanner can't read any modules - do I have issues?

    Car: 01 525it

My FOXWELL NT520 Pro Scanner can't communicate with any of the modules. I can read the engine dme and tranny module but I get a communication error when trying to access the LKM for example. I have a feeling this is because one or more modules have crapped out but wanted to confirm my suspicion. A possible suspect is the memory seat function which doesn't work. So I pulled the memory switch only to find it disconnected with the connector not visible in the door cavity. I'll pull the door panel off this weekend to have a look-see.

I'm waiting on cables to be able to use INPA so I can verify it is indeed a communication failure.

    TIA

Is this the '01 525i ? have you verified that your scanner's connector has pin 7&8 bridged?

I had this same issue. Wound up being a corroded junction on the k line, under the carpet on the driver’s side.

Yes the 01 525it, car info added. This is the scanner I'm using,

I doubt if I can look at the pins on that cable. Are you referring maybe to the KKL VAG-COM 409.1 OBD2 USB Cable that's spec'd for INPA software?

Thanks for that. Where bouts is this junction? Is the k line wire a certain color?

    Check continuity with a VOM
Regarding the electric distribution centers, they're located under the front seats, below carpeting and isolation. It's a good suggestion especially if you know your car could have been flooded or the body plugs under the side splash shields became loose

The OBD2 connector (X19527 in BMW terms) has Pin 7 connected directly to the DME and the DME connects to the AGS. So those two are readable.

Pin 8 of X19527 is a White and Purple wire which goes to X183. X183 lives under the carpet on the drivers side and connects the ABS module, the Steering Angle sensor, and most importantly the Instrument cluster. The instrument cluster (IKE or KOM) converts this bus into the K Line bus.

On my car, and I suspect yours, X183 had crumbled into dust. If it's open you'll have access to the DME and AGS, but nothing else. Pull the dead pedal, yank back the carpet, and take a look.

Oh schweet... Somebody who's got the WDS splice numbers and location pic and everything! That is the good stuff. I'll add I doubt the foxwell unit isn't connected on the right terminals since it's a branded BMW specific unit (unlike other generic cheap Chinese cables for instance).
