My dear E31 owners, friends and family! I am proud to announce the release of this film, in my efforts to raise the love and appreciation for the E31-cars around the world. In 2017 we made the 850CSi film, in 2019, we made this one about the 850i's and the 840Ci's. In this film I introduce the new generation of youngsters to our cars, as well as embracing long term ownership and excellence in care for cars with high mileage. Please comment, share and subscribe to this film/channel, so that together as a team of owners, we can succeed with this quest.
The two auctions will begin this week on Bring A Trailer.
Regards
Alec Cartio

I enjoyed taking my niece's 15 year old son for a driving lesson up to the COTA F1 track in Austin for a cars and coffee meet last month. He's had a permit for about four months and can only drive with an adult in the car until he turns 16. He drove about 200 miles round-trip and got up to 85 mph on the tollway. I sent a photo of speedometer to his mother and aunt and they were freaking out that I let him drive that fast! He really enjoyed driving a car with a V12. Several guys complimented him at the track about driving the 850.

Great conceptual video Alec.
I do continue to enjoy your films, however I'm inclined to say that this one is founded very much on romantic ideals, rather than the practical aspects of owning, running and maintaining a 30-year old, V12-engined, classic 90's BMW.
To achieve the above, and to keep one of these cars in such great condition, requires a lot more than simply applying the "feel-good" factor - which, by the way, is admirably portrayed in this film.
Granted, there is also the aspect of appreciating values for the E31, which you've touched upon, but this too relies on owners continuing to invest sizeable chunks of time and money into maintaining these cars to a high standard.
I love my E31 - possibly more than any other classic BMW I've owned - and it will always have a special place in my heart, but we all know that there is so much more to 8-series ownership than looking cool, impressing others or feeling great when you're sitting in the car, or driving it in anger.
In reality, nowadays the prospect of owning an E31 (especially as a daily driver as you're espousing in the clip) is likely to be well beyond the reach of most youngsters in their late teens or early 20's (your targeted audience), who typically do not possess sufficient disposable income - or the necessary mechanical skills - to allow them to properly keep, and therefore fully appreciate, one of these cars.
Of course, there will always be exceptions - a privileged few who have the luxury of a high disposable income and/or a wealthy benefactor, to facilitate the necessary cash injections when required. I'm all for passing on these cars to younger enthusiasts, however the few eligible individuals out there would constitute a very limited buyer base of potential new custodians.
So I guess my point is that, although it's another nicely shot/edited, high-quality production, I do feel this film lacks the balanced viewpoint that is needed here and (IMHO) tends to ignore or 'gloss-over' the all-important financial and practical aspects of E31 ownership.
To summarise, I think if young people buy these cars based on the message contained in this film alone, then they are making an uninformed decision and, as a result, there will be plenty of heartache, tears and disappointment, not too far down the road.
Surely it would be more prudent and responsible of us to provide them with a more cautionary and balanced sales pitch up-front, rather than risk putting these kids off owning an E31 altogether - thereby negating the positive ownership message that this video is attempting to deliver.

Wow, that's amazing for a 200k mile 8er!
1993 850Ci.....18 years & 165,000 miles and counting!
Very cool idea for that video.
My friends in their 20s all agree that the E31 is a beautiful car and compliment me on it, so it is appealing to that demographic.
I think the photo in front of the Louis Vuitton store captures the fashionable / stylish lifestyle that an E31 is just the perfect car for.
Looks like we did something right. There's a large wave of 840s and 850s on Bring a Trailer now. The trend has been set.
