    E39 M62 Timing Chain Guide rail.....Which one?

    Hi Guys,

BMW E39 540 M62B44 build date July 1998, pre vanos.

So 99.9999% certain the chain guides have let go, massive timing chain rattle, fortunately she was still running fine, obviously switched her off as soon as I heard the noise!!

Anyway and I'm sure this has been asked before....but I would like confirmation if the M62TU Guide rail 11311745406 will fit an M62 and be a direct replacement for 11311704945, I've asked a couple of shops/dealers and no one can give me a definitive answer.

Much appreciated if someone can confirm it does/does not fit before I order the parts.
I'm looking at ordering the Febi 47500 timing chain kit?

    Cheers :-)

    Per www.realoem.com ,
    11311745406 supersedes 11311704945 , and is applicable for BMW 5' E39 (04/1995 — 12/2003).

So yes, it is a direct replacement. It should fit.

It will fit, meaning bolt up, but there are differences between pre vanos and tu.
The guide bolts to the oil separator and they are different between the two.
So there is companion parts that you need; oil separator, separator drain tube and different length bolts.

I checked and the correct part is still available. Buying the extra parts eats up the cost savings of the tu kit. But if you can get used parts from a junk motor, the all plastic left hand guide (can't say drivers for you) doesn't fail and you just need the U and tensioner side.

That's what I needed to know, many thanks :-)

If all the other parts are the same its still cheaper to buy the TU kit, comes with timing chain, tensioner and guide rails, then just buy the left side guide rail separately?
