I was driving on the freeway around 75 mph and had a very loud clunk happen. Shortly after it became very hard to maintain speed and I pulled off. A very pungent smell came through the vents.
After looking under the hood I saw a little smoke (or steam) and the smell was very strong. I did not get any code or message on the dash. It starts and drives fine at the moment, but its still a bit difficult to get up and go.
I drive a 2003 BMW 325 XI 5 speed. Around 117000 miles.
Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Sorry, there's not nearly enough information here."Pungent" doesn't tell us whether you smelled friction material, coolant, oil, rubber, or electrical. "Clunk" is similarly undescriptive, sorry. Dashboards don't give codes. "Starts and drives fine" doesn't correlate with "a bit difficult to get up and go".
I'm sorry, I'd like to help you know what's wrong, but I don't have any real clues.
