Hello,
I'm having issues with my IHKA not modulating my heater control valve and keeping it closed 100% of the time. I've unplugged the valve for now and have heat 100% of the time and will be testing with INPA soon to see if I can verify my thoughts that it is the IHKA unit itself, however, I need to go to a upick yard this week and since the IHKA units are cheap to buy there I was going to pick up one or two. My issue is that I can't seem to find out what models of the unit will be compatible with mine. I will be removing my unit and checking the PN before going into the yard, however, if they have a similar unit will it work? Ebay has a ton of different options listing for my car, but they all have slightly different PN's.
I believe mine is the 64.11 8 384 112 unit (it only has the recirc button, not the Auto recirc option) - The faceplate is identical, however, maybe the PN is different....
The is also another version which has an Auto recirc - 64.11 6 917 004 will this work? Or are other components different?
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks,

Have you checked the voltage at the heater control valve connector. Be advised that the IHKA modulates the voltage so a digital volt meter may show either a varying voltage or a voltage less than 12VDC.
Thanks! Exactly what I needed.
Yes I checked the voltage - this was a while ago and can't remember the value, but it was less than 12 and didn't seem to fluctuate. With it plugged in I can drive for 30 minutes and never get heat out of my vents, however, with it unplugged I get heat once the car has reached operating temperature. From what I can tell that is either a faulty IHKA unit or a sensor. Not sure what though. Hoping to plug in INPA soon and start looking at values to see if I can pinpoint. Never used it yet though so if anyone has any suggestions on what to check that would be great.
Typically in the yards I go to there are so many e46s and I have even found ZHPs. You will more than likely find the same year and model of your car. I just pulled one from an e39 530i for my e39 M5. Works great and saved $700?
You should be fine either checking realoem or just matching up your year / model while at the yard.
I would also recommend getting two since new ones are so expensive.
I think the solder joints break down and then they quit controlling correctly.
Yeah I was planning on getting 2-3 since I'll be there and they are quick to remove. Thanks for the tips!
Get a can of computer keyboard compressed air and blow it through the little grill in the IHKA. There are a temperature sensor and a tiny fan in the IHKA. They are used to check the canin’s air temperature. The sensors can get dirty.
ah I'll try that as well.
