Hey Everyone,
I am completely new to car mechanics and always trusted the garages advice over the years but I wanted to get a second opinion before I decide what to do.
I need a new battery and the garage has quoted too much . I have looked online and found this website www.eurocarparts.com- put in my registration and the battery they advice is this one ( I have a 45% discount so it works out just over £100)
The only issue is that the details do not match the current battery in my car.
I am no expert but do they have to be the same, if not would the battery be sufficient? or suggest some good options
Thank you
The E31 has two batteries, one each side of the boot - and replacement must be done correctly otherwise damage can occur - the routine is shown here:

I saw your Thread headline and thought...yes those batteries are heavy and hard to pick up....Sorry - couldn't resist.
Tim's go by is excellent. Just follow it and you should have no problem. Just remember - always disconnect the negatives first (both of them) and when replacing batteries, do both at the same time.

You should be able to purchase the correct size battery at Walmart or any automotive parts house. Buy the best quality battery with the highest cranking amps available. I went to O'Reilly's because they previous owner had purchased the batteries there about two or three years earlier and I was very lucky that store exchanged both batteries free under warranty.
OP: Your location is US in your details. That site is UK, guessing you know as you quote in £s.
If you are going for batteries from ECP, don't get taken in with all that "55% off this weekend" promotion bollo! Just ask for their best trade price.
I got a pair of these on 15/9/18 for £184 inc. These are showing £136.99 each on the site. Ignore!

Go to Autozone, Checker Auto or O’Reilleys and get a pair of H8 batteries. Plan on spending $100-$140 each, and make sure you buy 2, otherwise you will be chasing down electrical problems. Most all of the batteries available today are manufactured by one or the other battery companies - they are just sold under many different brand names. Check around and see who has the best deal.
