I have a 2008 E92 328xi (non CA). My key fob has been slowly refusing to work, each time taking longer until it died. At least my valet key works.

Based on the above article, I'm going to try and replace the key with a CR 2032. What are the chances it will stop working with the transponder? This is my only key and I depend on it for transformation.
First off you need to always have another key for all sorts of reasons. The battery works the buttons on the key it does not effect the ews chip and starting systems. I recently took my key apart on my e39 to replace the battery, but after testing the battery I found it was just fine. Then I initialized the circuit board to the car and it worked fine. I came to the conclusion that the buttons in key body the don't really move that much when pressed, so the micro switches are not being pressed far enough to have the circuit board work. So when i pressed the circuit board firmly into the key part that had the push buttons it worked I fine. So did a little sanding to make sure it would happen and when gluing the halves back together I used plastic epoxy and clamp the key together on the edge of my work bench using an actual clamp for wool working. The key has worked ever since.
How did you initialize the circuit board to the car?
