Well i had a lous engine knock that developed couple days ago and need help diagnosing my 79 320i before i send it to a rebuilder
I didnt over heat the engine nor did it ever turn on the oil pressure light ever and was running fine until i heard it knocking like a spray can coming off the freeway on a short drive. Although the car has had considerable blow by for almost a year now. The oil is clean and has no metal bits
I tried disconnecting plug cables to see if the noise went away but it didnt. Also if i drive her for about 5 minutes it will go away and its more common at idle and it will go away randomly on its own sometimes. Use to be that i always hear it on cold starts then it would get better but now it's just random.
I also changed the oil/flushed it just to see if it would improve and the knock isnt as common now.
As a college student with limited resources and expertise im trying to rule out everything before rebuilding completely
Btw does anyone make affordable pistons/rods for an m10 yet?

Find a E30 M10. They are still somewhat easy to find in Texas. There is a engine with 124k in dallas.
Have you read the responses to your other post?

Put 2 bottles of STP in there and go find a mechanic before you blow it up.
Does the engine oil light illuminate when the key is first turned on?
When a head gasket is blown between two cylinders, it will make knocking noises too (extreme detonation).
Are you able to post a video with good audio?
Tbd
Maybe it's carbon knock? Could try Seafoam before you pull the engine.
