A friend has a 2011 diesel X5, say it’s “twin turbo” and he loves it. Considering getting similar. Looking for detailed information on 2009-2012 or so X5.
Are all the diesels turbocharged?
Other comments welcomed. We own a 1995 318 w factory sport suspension and a 2003 Lexus RX-300. Are hoping an X5 gives us the best of both worlds.
Thanks in advance.

BMW Diesel engines used in X5s in the USA market are:
- M57 (up to 2010)
- N57 (2011 - 2018)
- B57 (2018-up)
To not write what's already been written in much detail...a google search or internet search using the search engine of your choosing...should give you enough results to educate yourself about the BMW Diesel engines used during the X5 model years that have piqued your interest.
Good luck.

Looking up BMW N57 is educational. I want to start by understanding what our friend has, which we know is 2011 and he describes as being "dual turbo". I will continue investigating. Our friend has said that the car he bought had more "umph" than the gasoline models of the same year that he also test drove, and he loves his. If memory serves, he bought it from a dealer when it had just come off someone's lease.
I don't spend a lot of time reading about cars of any sort; if you or anyone else would like to point me to specific things you think are worth my reading, I'd welcome that.
Thanks.

Thanks - exactly what I needed to know.
Since I've now looked at the Wiki and seen that there are three different turbo configurations, may I also ask if they're all the _same_ turbo configuration?
I am repeating what my friend told me. He said his 2011 has two turbochargers, one that's on all the time. I said, showing my relatively meager knowledge of these things, "Isn't that called a supercharger, then?" but he didn't know. He describes his engine as "twin turbocharged." The Wiki mentioned 3 different configurations.
From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_N57
"N57D30Ox uses single turbocharger, while N57D30Tx uses 2 turbochargers, and N57S uses 3 turbochargers of varying size."
Thanks again to you and to everyone for their help.
