Top of strut hitting underside of the hood

1969 BMW 1602 - Passenger side strut top is hitting underside of the hood. It has hit hard enough to crack my new paint job where it hits. Has anyone seen this happen before? I bought the car restored. Have not torn into the assembly to check it out yet. My guess is that the strut assembly was reinstalled incorrectly and/or is missing a shim(s). Has anybody else ever seen this happen?E10.jpgE10II.jpg

Not sure if this helps, but hope so.

Might be an incorrect assembly, or bad replacement strut mounts?
