A Lot of this Wiring Looks the Same!

    Hi all,

While m50 manifold swapping my 99 328is, I, for some reason, did what I always do, and that's not concentrate on the project if I'm doing it with friends. The disassembly was with friends and I never concentrate. Therefore, I got a handful of those BMW quick-release connectors mixed up. They're all 3 pins, one for the Idle Control Valve, one for the Throttle Position Sensor, and one for ASC. Does anyone know of a way to confirm which one is which? perhaps by tracing the wires back, or where else they're connected to/ziptied to?

    I know, rookie mistake.

I would say that the length of the cables can be a good hint as to where they snap on.
Next time tag and bag it makes reassembly significantly more enjoyable.
That and the camera on your phone.
I would imagine there was some beer being used for lubricant as well.
Etm and a meter if you are really lost.
    This car is AWESOME !!!

ASC wire is not part of the engine wiring harness. It's actually comes directly from the fuse box.
I thought the other two were keyed to prevent screwing it up, but maybe not.

As 666 has said, these connectors are keyed so the plugs will only fit on what they were meant to fit.

"connectors are keyed so the plugs will only fit on what they were meant to fit". Sounds like a plan but I have seen many people still able to incorrectly plug in the wrong connector. This could be due to degraded connectors parts broken clips and guides during removal. It would be nice to know ahead this is the ICV connector by the wire colors but if all you have are a few the risk is low since the cable length will also estimate the location of the object in question.

UPDATE: I'm just dumb and realized, since I've deleted my SAP, that one of the SAP connectors doesn't need to be plugged in anymore. Once everything was installed again the wires just hung in their natural position and made sense.
