After changed spark plugs, the car is shaking on idle

First of all, thank you so much for all your helps. Finally, I changed my first 12 spark plugs on three days. However, I started the car tonight, it was shaking frequently. I feel like the engine was going to die soon, but it was still running until I turned it off. What reasons cause this issue? Didn't I plug the wires in properly? Or something else I did wrong? Below are what I changed.

    1. Spark plugs : NGK BKR6EK 12 Pieces
    2. Two distributors
    3. Two air filters
    4. Oil changes
    5. Oil filter - I don't know where the oil filter is located. Is the hexagon piece on the attachment? If yes, it doesn't look like I can open it from the top.

It is full of fun even I hurt myself a lot. Please help. Many thanks.

Did you disconnect the batteries? If so dk motors need a few rev up and down to sync up and could cause rough engine at first.

Is the right bank maf sensor installed correctly with the arrow facing engine? Although the left bank maf sensor is installed correctly, you should rotate it 180 degrees to lessen the strain on the sensor’s wiring harness. This is the correct installation position for the 850i, this also applies to the right maf sensor. As pictured, it’s the correct placement for the e32 750i maf. Did you seat all 12 ignition wire sockets properly into their respective spark plugs? Make sure they are all snapped in properly with a definitive locking click.

Yes, the hexagonal cap device is the oil filter container. Could be challenging to remove if it hasn’t been opened for awhile, especially if it has been overly tightened. If you have a battery powered impact wrench attached a 36mm socket, this probably will be be the easiest way to remove the cap. You could also try using an extra big crescent wrench (with long handle) for this task if you don’t have an impact wrench and socket.

Here is the correct firing order and distributor sequence for the HT leads:

Most likely the spark plug wires are not in the correct plugs.

Thanks a lot. For 850, I only need to adjust the spark plug wires for this issue. Should I worry about the ignition timing? On Youtube, someone mentions initial timing and total timing to adjust the distributor. Should I purchase a timing light to do it? Thanks.

Seems this would be an opportune time to top off the blinker fluid and refresh the muffler bearings as well.

You cannot adjust the timing on these cars with a timing light, the distributors are firmly mounted. Timing is adjusted by removal of the upper timing cover, locking the engine at TDC and adjusting the camchain sprockets to the correct camshaft orientation. You might want to find someone close by that actually knows how these engines work before you attempt these kinds of repairs - it will save you a lot of time, money and grief.
