The hatch glass on my coupe has de-laminated along the edges and I'm have a glass guy coming to replace it this week. I was sick of it looking this way. Has anyone done this before? Any tips for removing the glass? I'm sure this is his first z3 coupe hatch glass job.

I had mine replaced a few years ago because of the same milky edge, the glass fitter removed the old glass using a cheese wire without any issues.
A couple of things to note is there are small rubber pads fitted to hatch to space the glass so you need to make sure these are still in place and also the
position of the bottom edge of glass needs to be spaced when sealant is drying to stop the glass dropping too low.
Hope this helps.

Thanks, very useful info!
Just to add its a number of years since the new glass was fitted and the milky edge hasn't returned
Good to know. Maybe a bad batch of glass was installed on our coupe's from factory.
Have the same issue. What’s the cost for repairs?
FYI The glass is tempered not laminated, so it cannot delaminate to begin with. What you're seeing is the ceramic paint fading away. I hope whoever is servicing it uses a cord/wire tool such as these
He is charging me $400 Canadian for the glass/install in my garage. The car is in storage for the winter so I'm happy he was willing to do a home install. I'm sure prices vary wildly depending on location/installer. I'll take pictures of the install and new glass.

Whatever it is, its fugly.
There must be a coating or paint that can be added to that area once glass is removed, no?
I wonder if the black primer used at the time of glass installation would do the trick.

So no real reason to replace the glass. Remove, repaint, reinstall.

I also seem to recall a post a while back about someone that just added a black wrap on the exterior edge of the window and it looked pretty good.

She's a wiper delete for now. I'm contemplating putting it back on after the install. When I bought it the wiper and motor were removed, call me crazy but I kinda like the look of the rear wiper. Its a bonus that the former owner kept the wiper and included it in a box of spares when I bought the car.

Mine still has the wiper, and in a similarly perverse way, I too like it; sort of a way to validate the car's usefulness as a functioning utility vehicle.
A sort of X5 ///Micro, except that even fitted with a twinscrew s/c, it's nowhere near as fast as (our) X5 (F85 with Stg-II Dinan upgrades...).
Wiper fairly useful 'round these parts.

$400 Canadian installed. He mentioned the glass was around $250. So probably around $200 USD.
