Richer Americans Are Skipping SUVs for Station Wagons
https://www.bloombergquint.com/busin...ns#gs.MvALm2Lj
Crib sheet: Niche market, less than 2% of total units sold in US, 212,000 brand spanking new station wagons last year, 29 percent more than they did five years earlier
BMW responds with: "Starting this year, BMW will no longer offer a wagon version of its 3-series sedan in the U.S., a vehicle that’s long been a paragon of the product".

There are lots of them out there if you want one. Most are high mileage ones on their last and final trip across Craig's List. Use this link to search all of Craig's list: http://www.searchcraigslist.org/
I use "BMW Wagon" as the search words, as this site does not have a strong/advanced search engine tool.
I would be happy to look at anything you find in the Mid Atlantic area. There are lots of them in Southern CA and Boston area due to the financial ability to buy high end cars for the wife. There has been a few in the Wash DC area that were interesting. Last year I found a matching clone of one of mine, a '99 528 wagon in Sand Beige with 60K on the clock. Sitting at a local corner sleaze ball car/camel lot. One owner picked up at an auction sales as it was traded in at a local dealer. Needed a LOT of TLC and preventative maintenance. My wife' tolerance of another BMW coming into the family would be a deal breaker as we own 4 now with just the two of us.... Women, they don't get it. More is ALWAYS better.

Grrr. You tickled the chip on my shoulder dammit.
What annoys the crap out of me is the disingenuous lies of the automakers when they talk about wagons.
"You guys aren't buying enough wagons to make it worth it" is what they say. "Can't justify a different model / body style due to volume" they say. Total bullsh1t.
There are loads of niche cars that automakers make that fall well below what those wagon numbers are.
VW sold the weirdo EOS converticoupe thing for 10 years, most of the time WELL under 10k units a year.
BMW sold the Z4 for almost 20 years. Since 2008 it's been under 5k units.
You can go on and on and on for models that get sold in this country at low volumes.
If you then turn and look at wagon numbers, Volvo V60's (standard and XC versions combined) run to 4-6k units a year.
The Germans refuse to talk about specific wagon numbers (good sign they're hiding something) but BMW 3-series sells about 100k a year. Even if they only get a 5% take rate on wagons that's easily the same as the Z4, and, there's way more parts commonality between the Touring 3er and the rest of the line than the bespoke parts in the Z4, so, way cheaper to 'carry' from a corporate sense as a body style.
If the POS lying liars really told us the truth they'd say:
"We just flat out make more money on SUV's, which are made in USA (at least for BMW.. and again more money), and we know if we don't send the wagons in, the dealers will just get those same buyers to take the SUV instead... and while some customers may be reluctant, many will be indifferent to the switch."
...and they'd say:
"Oh and our dealer network are all a bunch of whiny bitches who don't want to have to special order cars or get stuck with a weirdo car, so they also are demanding we just drop the stupid wagons as well as the stupid manual transmissions, so that they can just tell customers 'sorry everything BMW makes is automatic SUVs' because it makes their life easier.
Oh and also they want almost all the cars to be shipped in gray, silver, black, and white, because those are non-offensive colors and they can always convince somebody to buy one rather than be stuck with a Valencia Orange car that suzy-suburban doesn't really dig so much..."
Stupid dealers. Stupid automakers.
