    Considering to Purchase 2007 530i

It only has 96k miles. I see the valve cover leaking. I am mechanically inclined and can work on engines.

Besides the valve cover gasket set and bolts set (?), what other parts are needed to accomplish this job.

Also, what else do I check to get this E60 in tip-top shape?

At about 100K, we saw many major system issues on our 530XI including failures of AC compressor, starter, fuel pumps, transmission, air suspension, rear shocks. All those parts are common to E60/E61's, and cost for those fixes would be upwards of $20K at shop prices. We had an extended warranty at the time that covered the repairs, which was awesome, but on my dime it would have still been a lot of $ and labor. I'd say to verify if any of that major work has been done. Most importantly, the shifting should be totally problem free. Test automatic AND manual shifting on a long drive. If the tranny is good (that was an $8K fix), then flush fluid, and put on a new filter/pan. All the other issues would be a fix-as-you-go type of thing.

I have read that at 100k the water pump is a looming issue you might want to go ahead and fix as a preventative measure.

When you do the valve cover, check your coils and make sure there is no cracking on any of the rubber boots.
