Crush washers on the cylinder head sensors

95 M3. I'm in the middle of a head gasket job and ordered one of those kits that come with all the gaskets, washers and o-rings. I noticed I now have crush washers for the 3 fittings on the cylinder head, the lower chain tensioner and the air intake sensor in the intake manafold. None of these parts had the crush washer on the the parts I removed. They do all appear to have a slight taper to them. Are these washers supposed to be there? REALOEM shows them but i'm puzzled as to why I have non. No leaks prior to the head gasket job.

All fitting on BMWs have crush washers or O-rings. BMW does not use taper threads on anything from the factory. Are you sure the rings are just not seized to the part or the head? Sometimes they're hard to notice .... I've seen a few doubled up because of that

    are slow.
Every sensor going into these motors has a crush washer. They are usually seized onto the block/head or onto the sensor itself (a flat head would help here). If it's not on either side (unlikely), then it was removed at some point and assembled improperly without the washer.

I don't believe timing chain tensioner has a washer. The OP asks about this.
I pretty sure everything on the head does. Did you look at RealOEM?

Thanks for the responses. I'm 90% confident non of these had washers with them when I removed them. The other thing I find odd is I'm replacing all these with new parts. Non of the new replacement parts come with the crush washer. I would think they would have been included if required. I remember thinking when I removed the parts "that's odd, no crush washer. Must not be needed or they will come with the replacement part if needed".

It's silly, but no, the replacements usually do not come with the washer. Surprisingly, the cheap chinese replacements usually do, lol. I just buy a 10 pack or 10mm, 12mm, 14mm and 16mm to keep on hand. Like 3$ each set.

I could swear there was not one on my tensioner (my 1998) when I recently installed.
It is a different tensioner for the 95 M3. But the E46 has the same tensioner as my E36 M3 and it shows a crush washer (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=BL93-USA-01_2000_E46_BMW_M3&diagId=11_3005#11317838675).

Not to hijack this thread but can anyone tell me if the 98 has a washer?

My genuine replacement coolant temp sensor come with one, but that's been the only one so far.

Yes, it does. As stated, they ALL do. RealOEM is sometimes wrong, and sometimes hard to find the specific part. But trust me, it does.
