Upper radiator hose. I was under the car looking for loose suspension components and noticed some coolant on the PS lines. When I started the car coolant was pouring out of the upper radiator fitting. I got a new one ordered but when it showed up someone had robbed the alternator cooling line off of it. Got another new one, snapped it in place ad was good to go. The o-rings were flat spotted, I really hate the snap on fittings.

I also found a missing bolt in the right rear lower control arm. The car was driving fine but would occasionally wiggle going down the road. The bolt was for the KMAC bushing so I had to modify a spare and wrestle it into place.

Finally replaced my front brakes. Had the parts for 6 months which I bought when I did the rears. There was life on the fronts still but I had a front end wobble at 60mph under braking, and could feel a bit of pulsing when braking lightly at low speeds.

Now all the wobble under braking is gone. Previously I've replaced the front control arms, steering linkage, and tires as they wore out. Each time the wobble has mostly disappeared, but a small amount has remained, and slowly come back as much as before. Can't believe I waited so long to replace these brakes just because there was lots of life left on the pads. All the other parts have been worn, and contributed to the wobble, but these were obviously culprits as well. Fingers crossed this keeps the problem solved for a while.

Finally installed my UUC pedal covers, and reassembled most of the interior on my 01. Stripped my 750 calipers so I can get them powdercoated.

I swapped the tie rod ends, center link, and a lower front control arm. Also put in new front sway bar bushings. Pending an alignment. I took the entire tie rod/center out as one unit, put the new one in the same, and eye-balled and measured to get as close to the same overall length as possible. Wheels -by eye- are pointing in the same direction. But steering wheel is offset a bit. ( it was before I did the work ).

Some of this went so easy, some was a pain. I tried fighting and prying and hammering the pitman and idler arm mounts off the center link. Would not budge. I had a ball joint separator for the tie rod ends and control arm, but did not anticipate needing one for these links. After watching the video on this work from autodoc.co.uk it seemed like it would just pop out. No such luck. After wasting an hour or two of trying I headed over to autozone for some other pullers that would fit in there. First time I took advantage of their free rental of tools. Got back and they popped right off and work continued.

I did a 6 mile test loop and the car felt nice and solid. It was the missing -link- after doing the fresh coil overs a few months back. Pun intended. This was also the first time I actually worked on a car -in- my garage vs the driveway. That was a relative pleasure.

It's not bad at all. Taking out the control arm's is fast job. Then just used press to get bushings replaced and put everything back together and do alignment. Bushings where febest... I would have not used those, but those whore only one available. E6x bushings would also work but bolt holes are bigger.

Also found out that the lower ball joint's where somewhat loose, but didn't have play in them... Probably need's replacing in near future.

Replaced the aftermarket taillights (one was leaking) with late model non-yellow OEM units. Added an eBay Homelink. Retrofitting the Homelink proved to be easier than programming the thing to work with the garage. Eventually got it going.

Always loved those AMX's. Sadly my AMC was a Hornet.

Why so long for the first drive?

I bought the car in pieces. Engine rebuild, paint job, money, life, kids. All of usual excuses! My son really gave me the last push to get it on the road. When a car is in storage its out of site out of mind.

owned for 1 month now a 97 740iL ,,, low miles, CA car.

Today i replaced sunroof gasket and, voila, no noise. have mechanic replacing P/S hoses tomorrow. next DIY is creating some tarp that will catch all old orange glue/insulation I intend to scrape messily from the metal surface of inner sunroof slide door before attempting to glue in some custom grey suade. For some reason when car arrived on transport, the headliner over sunroof cover was half hanging down, all wrinkled, likely from being stuffed into the roof. I was refunded 250 for the effort.

easier to remove glass from above and remove?

Oh! and what happens if you sort of melt--whilst employing heat gun toward removal of sunroof gasket-- one of the Styrofoam floats that appear to be dictating some drainage (best guess) in by the sunroof track...in the front corners. Looks to serve the same presumed function but lost a little rubber plug that had, til today, been residing unhindered up there, working hard at some undetermined function for the past 3 decades.

what does it do and need I worry?

With a lot of persuasion and lots of WD40 got the sunroof to open, added some window vent visors, and LED headlight bulbs and ordered the transmission filters (one to use and one to shelve). I also fitted the head unit I am modifying for it with the new push button controller for the heat/AC. Ordered a new ignition switch thinking it could be an issue too. Phew!

Had the front seats professionally reconditioned. I attempted to do it myself with Colourlock but the color wasn't right sadly and I was short on time. I'll be writing about that in my build thread once the interior is all buttoned up.
