    E39 Touring Values?

I think I'm going to sell my 2001 525iT (auto), but I'm having a hard time figuring out an asking price. I know they aren't worth a lot to anyone but an e39 enthusiast. This one is in excellent shape for the year with only 125k mi, zero rust on top or bottom, and pretty much all systems in good shape. I put all new front suspension on it last spring and brakes. It's a beautiful color combo - avus blue and gray interior.

Just wondered what y'all think on a asking price. Thanks

I hear you. Market is nuts. $800-$5000?

I paid a mint for mine but the big draw was a V8 w/ 6-SPD swap already done. Also sold the huge brakes and wheels it came with.

I thought I got the deal of the century on my 2003 525/5 at $2500 with a bunch of extra parts and E38 seats thrown in. Then I went to register it and the State of Texas value for the car was $600. I had to pay taxes on the higher price too?

Each vehicle and situation is different. Put it out there at a higher than you think it is worth price and see if you get any nibbles. Tax refund time is here, so who knows what people are willing to spend.

This is a really complex question to answer. I keep a log of manual 6 cylinder touring prices because that specific market is nuts. IMO, a 150K+ 525iAT would be a $2-3K car all day in the NYC Tri-state area, but lower miles and the price goes up, same if you cast a wide net on the BMW CCA classifieds, eBay or Bring a Trailer. If you go with CL, you will have a smaller audience. Lastly, tourings often take longer to sell in non-coastal regions, so you may have to hold on to it for the right buyer.

Cliff Notes: I think $4k-ish is your number, also depending on colour and options.

It's very complicated as blue book will be next to nothing and non-enthusiast buyers will try to low ball you all day long. There are not that many wagons around and honestly not many enthusiasts either. If you are not in a hurry to sell and can put up with all of the annoying emails, texts, etc., then you might get a good price for it. If it were a unicorn, it would garner a higher price for sure. I got a premium price for a 528iT Sport 5spd 185K, but it still took a long time to find a buyer. When I sold my '03 525iT Sport Auto 180K, it was annoying as hell with all of the low ball offers. I ended up selling it for $2,500 to an enthusiast that I still keep in contact with to this day. I wanted to get more out of it, but the constant emails, texts, no shows wore me down.

Truly all over the board. I would say not a whole lot, then I seen a 2000 528 5 speed go for 11k on eBay just this week.
My winter beater is worth $1500. and I turn down two or three offers a year over $10K for my Japan Red one.
Miles, engine, trans, color all play quite a bit on value.

Put some pics of your touring, that would help.

Thanks for the replies. I'm into vintage motorcycles too and when you get into niche vehicles it can get tricky. In the end, things are merely worth what someone will pay for them.
I love the car and am not 100% sure about selling it. I'll get it cleaned up sometime soon and get some pics.

Adding to the prodigious evidence that fly-over-country is populated by retards.

(joking people, joking... but srsly... who wants to live in the middle flat ol' flyover country with no hills and no water!?!?)

^^^ this all sounds 100% legit. Touring + clutch, then you have something and even where that's not as in demand, you'll find a buyer. At least the touring body gives you something to go on and hold out for. Better than an I6 slushbox base sedan which is the E39 kiss of death.

BTW I wouldn't count on the tax refund thing. If you follow the stories, due to the tax law changes, people have had less taken out this year during the year, so basically "you already got your tax cut in your paycheck" and that means lotta people are gonna not see the refunds they normally do.

WTF? This 03 525iTA sold on ebay recently for 9k. Granted a bit lower miles, but still. Maybe there's hope after all...

Well I decided to list the car on ebay at no reserve and let the market decide what she might be worth. Hoping it finds a good home!

Yesterday an e34 525iT Auto, Orient Blue/Parchment, with 91,500 miles sold for $9525.00 with no reserve on BaT.

For "youz guyz" who don't know, Michigan has the most shoreline in the US. In Chicago, we have big water in Lake Michigan, that we share with Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan. Wisconsin also has Lake Superior. Ohio has Lake Erie. All unsalted. And there is still more to the east. Keep flyin' over, it's crowded enough here already.

Besides, I don't really count Upper Midwest as flyover country. There's proper woods and trees and hills and water and stuff up there. Just like you don't count the Rockies. There's reasons to get out of the plane in those places.

How much do the manual 6 cylinder tourings tend to sell for currently?

Haha, based on mainly listing values and few a known selling prices, the mean price is $5,152.00 This accounts for 33 cars listed from 2016 until current. Obviously when you take out units based on parameters of mileage, title branding, and condition that number fluctuates.

The tourings are a funny status. The people who want them, tend to really want them especially the manuals, and will pay some. But unless you find one of those people, uh, there's not much interest.

I just bought a 2002 525i Wagon with 114K 4 days ago. The guy wanted $4995, came down to $3995 immediately, and I got it for $2800. ZERO rust and the mileage seems low.

I am currently thinking about complete rebuilding a 2000 UK spec (RHD) 540i auto with all new parts. Within the past week it has been re-federalized in VA for emissions (thus legal for anyone in the area). Does anyone think that after a complete engine, suspension, cooling and transmission rebuild (if needed or not) would add any value to the car? It currently has 230k miles and is on its second transmission. But if everything is replaced by new parts as if it were new, would it add any value to the car similar to a low milage car?

    In a word.... no.

A RHD car is a big PITA for a street car.

When its a crazy rare vintage JDM Toyota 2000GT or Nissan whatever or Aston Martin or Austin Healey or Jag or Lotus or whatever... Hey great, drive around on wrong side of the car and everybody will think its amazing and you are the coolest guy in town.

For a regular car... its mostly not a pleasant enhancement to the driving experience.

Well.... Unless you're a mail carrier or paperboy.
In which case, yes then it might just be very handy.
Maybe you can sell it to a paperboy.
