M42/M44 DASC question

Just wondering if there are any older folks in here that may know anything about these. I've got a 96 Z3 with a DASC on it. I'm considering buying a 95 318ti and swapping it over (if possible) I've noticed from pics that the throttle body position is slightly different. Any other differences? Would the Z3 version even fit on the M42? Thanks.

Should work well, as far as hardware. The M42 has 100 less cc and makes 5 fewer lb ft. The 318 ECU can be converted to MS41.2 with a flash and anyone can then tune it.

MS41.2 on a 1.8 4-cilinder? are you sure about that? I believe MS41 is only for the OBDII straight 6 engines.

ah, you're right. The M43 ECU is completely different. Looks like TunerPro may be an option, or use the Z3 ECU as is, and hope everything works...

The DME in the Z3 just has a dinan flash on it. Nothing related to the SC. I assume because it's only 5psi? I know the DASC kits came with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator... I assume this is just to bump pressure for enrichment. Seems odd lol

A rising rate FPR should be adequate at 5 psi, it won't provide perfect AFRs until full boost, because fuel flow increases with the square root of pressure. The ECU will do its best to compensate.

The 95 is an OBD1 engine and has lots of minor differences. None of them are things that can’t be overcome. I recall the injector bungs being different and some other minor things for hose connections, etc.

The kits used a RRFPR for fueling increase which was a hack way of adding fuel increase on a stock ECU many years ago. At this point you can find a tuner who can make you an OBD1 chip. It might be easier to find someone who can tune the ECU in Europe as they got a lot more of these engines so there was demand for the knowledge.
