Alright so i ended up getting a cam, could not get the thought of it out of my head. Cam specs are: 209/217 112+1 lsa .550/.550 lift. And the water pump is on now i have to take it off and i will be doing this cam swap w the heads on using wooden dowels to hold the lifters up. Excited to hear a little thump. And the power steering hose is bought, power steering pump, bracket, and other little bits.

I’m some what disappointed I didn’t do a cam. It will really help it breathe with turbo. Plus you can make some serious power.

So another update. Bought a new oil pump just a Summit stock flow replacement(Melling cast#'s) as its a daily, but I figured I'm there so let's just replace it. Aswell as a new chain and taking the oil pump off with out droppping the pan, holy shit you have to have some patience. I bent a 10mm wrench to do the oil pickup bolts. I went to Lowes to buy a shorter bolts for it so i don't have to struggle as hard with install. And i got a 1/2inch breaker bar. I tried using my ratchet with a SAE socket(I didn't have a 24mm) and put my jack handle on it as a extension and it skpped a tooth: Originally went to Advanced for it but the quality was so shitty it's unbelievable. Got a Craftsman brand and a 24mm impact socket. My impact was a gift and the trigger relay broke so I had to jimmy rig the wires, brought them outside the casing and used terminal connectors and when i attach the battery it starts goin LOL. And for reverse I swap the wires. I'll end up getting a Dewalt in the future.

I got the cam installed and used the 5/16 steel dowels. Driver side went in perfect but I had to flap disk the passenger dowel and make a flat section along the whole rod as the tolerances are more tight. Used ARP bolts and new retainer plate. I ordered the ICT Billet(F-body style power steering pump)and low mount alt bracket and the template to drill and tape for a Irwin 10mm x 1.5 Metric hole in the block for the third bolt on the alt. Was worried about fucking it up, the drill bit i ordered was a TopLine USA Drill Bit Size R M42 Cobalt 1-Pk, I used a smaller bit to start the hole than switched to the M42 that ate threw the cast iron with-out a problem.

I do have a question, when I initially installed the oil pan I used silicone on the 4 corners for the rear/ front covers. Now that I am going to be putting the front cover back on should I apply a bit of silicone on the circled area or should it be fine with just the new gasket?

Boy, I am no expert, but it seems hard to see the argument against smearing some silicone in that area again...

Yes, the manual calls for rtv in the corners where the covers meet the block. How are you centering your front and rear covers? Alignment tools are a must, I have the saccity alignits. I originally assembled them without the tools, i used the balancer to center the front and kinda did the rear by feel. I couldn't sleep well, so i ordered new seals and the tools. Thank god i did because they were way off.

Today I got the power steering pump and fittings/ line in the mail. Always such a work out doing those lines, was drenched in sweat and got a blister or two on my thumbs. But i think it turned out nice and routed together with the oil lines. The ICT kit is awesome, straight forward instructions and "dresses" up the bay a bit with the shinny aluminum. Added the thread sealant to the fitting on the rack and the male -6an threads. Next will be the alternator and I already have that kit just sitting in a corner waiting.

I have been debating on painting the engine bay for awhile now, finally picked a color and did all the prep and bondo for SOME holes. And I have to make new brake lines, so taking the engine out really wasn't a bad idea. The brake line I picked up is nickle copper and when doing the bubble flare it just didn't come out right. So I just ordered some steel lines and I know this will help as I did a test flare on the original lines that come with the master cylinder(which are steel) and it came out damn near perfect.

And I painted the fuel pressure regulator as the silver looked awkward to me. Used a 80-grit foam sanding block and cleaned up the sub-frame and lower steering shaft and removed the rubber "cup" it's called and will have to buy a new one: the rubber boot looking thing that sits on the firewall and the steering shaft comes out of. And a question to any one who knows if I will need a prop-valve on one of my brake lines(front or rear) since I will not be running my abs pump/ module. And on the non dsc master cylinders which hole is for the front and rear lines?

Haha I didn’t either! I ended using a long recip saw blade to trim it down. Didn’t want to pull it out.

I should think so! I do not have ABS, and I am running a Wilwood 260-8419 proportioning valve on the rears (at Jim's suggestion).

On mine (E36), the rear line connects to the port that is closest to the front of the car. If memory serves me, in German, "front" is vor and "rear" is hin. There is an "H" and "V" embossed above the two ports, IIRC

I may be retarded, the nickle-copper brake line that I had is fine and I just never lubed it when doing the bubble flares. Did a couple lines because I didn't realize how many fittings I really needed and ran out.

Engine is back in for the final fit, tested and bled all lines and only two leaks. The fittings just needed a bit more tightening. Also did some heat wrap because ceramic coating is sadly not in the budget right now. After having the car on stands for a month or two lifted like a foot off the ground, I lowered it to put the engine back in I was like damn the ride height is loowww. I took motorv8ed's advice on the brake bias module and got the same one except for in a bubble flare option. I honestly didn't feel like making a mount for it (and the -3an lines I ordered were shorter than expected), so some zip-ties did nicely and is surprisingly very sturdy. I think I could have capped the DSC fitting on my old master cylinder but I opted to ordered a new one w/o the DSC option as-well as a new reservoir. I was just as stressed about having no leaks that would require me to re-do a fitting just as much as turning the engine over for the first time. And also went with z8 motor mounts bc my last ones were shot to hell with grease seeping out of them. Picked up a new maf and all the tubing and clamps for my intake system. Trunk is still being worked on.
