Looking to buy a new differential. Currently have a Torsen unit (1999 z3).
Has anyone ever gone from the torsen to a quaife differential? Big difference?
I installed it in a different platform but the Quaife unit is a dream for tracked cars. Torsen units do not have clutch packs so they do not need periodic service but they do not lock under braking like a clutch units do. Depending on the amount of clutch lock, they want to grip both rear tires causing some noise from the rear end when turning. The open or torsen units don't make these noises. It really depends on how you use the car.

They are the same thing. Quaife is just one brand of torsen type differential. You would see no difference.
So right you are, the unit I was thinking of was a Os Giken which is a LSD.
