    Flooded my 2016 X3

My car got flooded, not bad everything works but my dash shows that my left & right blinkers , my plate light are malfunctioning. It also shows my brake light in orange. Everything else works.
When I turn or go in reverse it feels clunky and makes noise.
I changed all fluids in both transfer cases and transmission, no water, no water in the oil either.
I changed the light control foot well module. No change in the dash lights situation.

I was told that you can’t program a used foot well module? Not sure if the clunky sound is part of the electrical issue.

Rear running lights work, no front blinkers, rear blinkers work.
    Help!

How much water, which engine, fresh or salt water?

Is everything dry now? If you're looking to keep the vehicle, you'd better be a pro at these, and get drying.

The car was in fresh water, none got in the interior, smells still like fresh leather. No rust on anything. The trunk area got a little in it. All systems are working the car drives fine. The front blinkers don’t work but the rear does / plate light/ two blinker and the camera malfunction lights come on when you turn off the key.
I changed the positive battery cable in the trunk and bought a used light control module for the foot well. I used a good mechanic to program the module.
    Can you do that on a 2016 X3 28I

The noise when turning and going in reverse seems like a transfer case issue. I changed the fluid and read I should drive a few hundreds miles to see if that fixes things.
The turn singles are the concern I suppose

The next step would be to read all errors in the light controlling modules, check fuses if you haven't already.

I didn’t see it immediately after, I can say the interior seemed dry, no smells. The trunk well had signs of minor mud. This is under the removable platform in the back hatch. My guess is there had to have water rising and coming up through a drain hole in the trunk area. Again the car runs great no water in the trans, differential, transfer case or engine oil.
I changed the light control module in the foot well to make sure it wasn’t the cause of the malfunction of the front blinkers, plate light, and camera.

Can that module be programmed? What other sensor or relay might need to be changed. Is it that the mechanic didn’t know how to program the used light module in the footwell. I’m just wondering if anyone can give further direction on what I should do. I’m afraid to take it to the dealer.

We don't have enough detailed info to really know what may be going on.
The module will throw codes, and that will be the first and best initial guidance.

I understand, I’ll check with the mechanic. He seems puzzled. Can a used light controls module be programmed outside the dealer on a 2016?

Can you confirm the footwell light module would control the camera, front blinkers and plate light?
I’m going to invite my mechanic to leave a message on this thread tomorrow. Hopefully we get my wife’s baby back to her. Thanks

The mechanic now asked to replace the central gateway module. We already replaced the light controls module. The mechanic wanted me to check and see if anyone knew if the central gateway module could be programmed away from the dealer. Dora’s anyone know?

The mechanic disconnected the drive shaft from the front transfer case. He isolated that. It’s now going off to get quoted for a used unit. I saw on some threads here where you could replace parts on a transfer case. Driving straight was perfect. Just bad noise when in a turn and reverse. Any advise? Any leads where I might get a better price on a used transfer case. My guess is damage may have happens when towing?

Your mechanic is currently throwing parts at it by what looks like guesswork.

What kind of diag equipment is the mechanic using? An expert can program most used parts just fine. A dealer will often refuse to install and program used parts.
You said that the water didn't get in, but then why are we changing modules?

I want to be able to help, but without codes and reasons why those modules have been swapped, we're left in the dark. History on this car would help too.

The two threads are on the same topic, they can be merged.

And no, the gateway has nothing to do with lights turning on.

Your transfer case issue can easily be just the module (actuator) fault and not the whole transfer case.

    It sounds just like this:

Start with the simple things like examining the rear light sockets and wiring. Some cars suffer from wire looms that flex too much when opening/closing the trunk and the wires break. Some water added to this might push a borderline case over the edge.
