Can anyone enlighten me as to what this is please? It came with my car when I bought it, but I have no idea what it is, how to use it, or in fact if it even belongs with the car at all. There are no BMW roundels on it anywhere that I can find, however it does look rather professionally made with proper stitiching everywhere and eyelets in places that might be important and little plastic tags in the corners that might also be important.
Any ideas? If it is a genuine BMW accessory, can anyone point me to any published brochures explaining what it is?
Thanks for any help.

Perhaps something to protect car hood and windshield from snow buildup in the winter?

Could that be the cover for the rear seats for dogs/pets. One parts is held by the headrests of the front seats and the other part by the headrests of the rear seats, or something like that, never have seen one installed, but they were available.
Example aftermarket

I started thinking in that direction too, but discounted it as the car is Australian-delivered and we don't have snow in Australia. At least not in the quantities that would call for something like this.
This seems more likely. I can see the slots for the headrests now. They are heavily reinforced with stiff rods sewn in through the outer edges which I can see would make for a sort of hammock inside the car if one were to attach it to both front and rear seats. I guess then the separate pieces are for the inside of the rear doors and I'm guessing the eyelets hang over the door lock snipper buttons.
Anyone seen a BMW brochure with this accessory in it? I'm wondering if this is something that genuinely came with my car or just an aftermarket accessory someone gifted with the car when they sold it?

That was available as optional item. Cannot find a brochure at the moment which shows it and the BMW part number.
Edit, found it

Thanks for that. I shall keep it safe in this case as its obviously a quite rare genuine NLA accessory. I don't keep it in the car to be honest as it takes up a fair bit of space and is not the lightest of all things either, but good to know I've got it in the case that I ever need to carry a second dirty golf bag or bits of wood home from the hardware store or some such thing that needs to go across the back seat instead of in the boot.
