How fast does the auto shift?

I'll apologize for the random questions that'll come to me as time/looking around goes.

I was curious, on the automatic models with the sport shifting, how quickly do they react to the push of the button?
I know on systems like Porsche's PDK it's VERY fast, but Ivef been in things like a G37 Infiniti and it was quick but nothing special. Then, on your run-of-the-mill economy cars it's just slow.

How quick are the BMW models?
Quick enough to make you/someone consider one over a manual?

    Quicker than average by default.
You'll need to specify vehicle and transmission to get a real answer.
In the 335i, the Automatic is 0.5 seconds faster than the Manual.
I've also flashed the Transmission with xHP, Stage 3. This knocks off another 0.3 seconds.
I love the way the xHP flash adds to the experience. Smooth as silk, and wicked fast.
No stick anywhere is going to beat that. However, Porsche and others will likely beat this with Auto.

The sport auto in sport mode takes about 200ms to shift. That's faster than a human can discern that a shift has happened.

Quick enough BMW manuals are not quick shifting cars because of the flywheel weight, there not gear slammers.

Having just bought my first manual BMW, waiting for these syncros is very frustrating. My Subaru shifted in half a second; my 335xi takes like a second and a half. What's the good of having all this power if it takes this long to get to it?
    Are you gonna eat that?

It's flywheel weight, you have to slow your shifting down, don't wreck the trans.

Don't worry, I don't slam it; I operate the equipment within its capabilities. Do people often install LWFWs on these things? Not considering it now, but something to think about if the clutch ever dies.

Ok, say youre driving quite spirited. Revs are approaching 6k rpm and you bump the shifter forward for the upshift - is there much of a delay before it reacts or is it pretty much at that moment it's upshifted and youre still on the gas?

I really need to find a e90 around here to drive at a dealership.

Yes, sounds like you need to test one.
Whether using the auto-stick or the paddles, the response time is the same.
I'd suggest it's less than the duration of the shift... so... shift request. <100ms shift initiates. <200ms shift completes.
Install xHP and you'll be even happier.

Flashing your Transmission Control Unit (TCU)
Straight to Stage 3 is recommended. Smooth as silk, fast as... can be.
